The tale of the Corndog

You have all heard about them (I hope) and you have probably all seen one in a movie or on TV. BUT, have you actually tried one? You would all be correct, I am referring to THE CORNDOG!

So, what is a corndog? I hear you ask... The Wikipedia definition of a 'corndog' is as follows:

A corn dog (also spelled corndog) is a sausage (usually a hot dog) on a stick that has been coated in a thick layer of cornmeal batter and deep fried. It originated in the United States and is commonly found in American cuisine.

So basically, its a hot dog sausage shoved in a thick cornmeal batter and deep fried!? That sounds awesome dont you think? Well, it sounding awesome is where it ends unfortunately.

So, Lisa & Myself ventured out on Friday after work to purchase the food shop from a very well known supermarket establishment and as we were wandering aimlessely through the aisles, we come to the freezer section and the party foods... We thought, lets get some party food for the weekend as its easy to cook (heat lol) and fun to eat. So we were picking up the usual spring rolls, chicken bits, brie bites, satay sticks, lattices etc when we saw that they have corndogs. Now, unfortunately, I have never been to the "mighty" US of A so I thought it would be fun to have a go at them. There were 6 in the box so if we liked them we had 3 each, seems a pretty good deal for £2.00.

So Saturday night came about and rather than my usually hosted Ultimate Quiz that I hold every Saturday night at 8pm (I didnt hold one this week as we were all set to go to Engerland camping but the WG didnt lift the 5 mile rule until today Monday 6th July), we decided to have a family facebook message room with our cousins in The Midlands and Spain.

So, we prepared and cooked the party food just before so we could have a munch and drink whilst having our "virtual party". We tuckered down to a plate of processed pre-cooked and re-heated party food with delight, until we came to the corndog!

SO i bit into my corndog and i immedietely had a the look of regret on my face. Not only was it a really cheap hot dog sausage like someone had preserved hitler's member to clone it for corndog use in the future but the cornmeal has the texture of angel delight that had been rolled in sand and the baked in a quart of tar.

All I can say is that no amount of condiment (ketchup or mayo) could hide the rankness of this so called american loved food pastime.

It was lucky we had a plethora of other party foods to choose from or I was going hungry that night.

A Fucking Corndog: Source - Wikipedia

So, when you are in the frozen party food section of your favourite supermarket and you come across these fuckers, walk away and go get a fucking salad!
